Spherical roller thrust bearings

Spherical roller thrust bearings can simultaneously accommodate high radial loads and extremely high unidirectional axial loads. Their specially designed raceways accommodate a large number of asymmetric rolling elements. These rollers transfer the load from one raceway to the other at an angle to the bearing axis, guided by a flange on the shaft washer. Spherical roller thrust bearings, also known as axial spherical roller bearings, have the highest load capacity of all thrust bearings. They can also handle relatively high speeds.

Spherical roller thrust bearings are self-aligning and can accommodate slight misalignment between the shaft washer and the bearing housing. The bearings can compensate for shaft deflection, misalignment, and bearing seat deformation to a certain extent. Spherical roller thrust bearings are often installed in conjunction with spherical roller bearings to increase the axial load capacity of the bearing arrangement. Common applications include turbines, generators, and hydraulic machines.
